Dirty Vert

Saturday night I ran the Dirty Vert Race put on by Desert Dash with my friend Amelia. For this race you ran up Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City and then you zip-lined down. Sounds amazing, right? The zip-line was my attraction to the race because I am a bit clumsy, which means lots of falling during a trail race. Luckily, I didn't fall, although I did have scares where I tripped running next to a cliff and I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest.

The route we chose was 3.35 miles and was completely up hill. We did finish just over an hour and then it was time to zip-line. Amelia is terrified of heights so she was freaking out the entire time and I didn't get nervous until I was strapped in. Once I was strapped in, I was shaking so much the metal was making noise that everyone could hear. It was completely dark so we couldn't see much but we the feeling of flying about 50 mph was incredible.

Starting again...

I am starting over again hopefully for the last time. I had a bit of an injury on my acheillis and I think it may have been due to the shoes I was running in so I am going to try to start training in my old shoes. If I have no pain then I will just buy some new Saucony's. I have decided that I am going to do Tough Mudder in April and I realized I am running out of time to train. Last year I didn't train at all and it was awful so it can't be much worse than that. I am looking for a new running training plan, does anyone have any suggestions?

Running from an Angel

On Saturday I ran Running from an Angel with a couple of friends. I decided to run with Julie, who is new to running, to help keep her motivated and I think we both needed it realizing how cold it was. Vegas has been having frost warnings and Saturday morning was no different, it was in the low 30s with a slight wind. The course was an out and back and had a couple of tough hills but they were really fun to run back down. My roommate Alex was also running the 5k and had plans to finish in under 20mins (I know he is crazy). Unfortunately, his body didn't agree with his plans and he started getting cramps after the first mile. Julie and I caught up with him around mile 2.5 and walked the rest of the way until the finish line where we booked it. I loved running with Julie, it was nice to keep her motivated to keep going and it was humbling knowing that I had been in her shoes once.

We were also surprised with a pancake finish at the end. I love to have pancakes after racing, it makes them taste so much more delicious.

I look forward to running their sister race, Running with the Devil in June.

Have you have ran with a friend?

Frienemy

I have a frenemy, and its name is running. To say I love running would be a lie. I love that it keeps me moving, tones my body, and the feeling when I am done, but the actual running itself sucks. I hate being out of breathe and the occasional pain it causes when I push myself too hard.  I just recently started running when someone in my work was recruiting for a race called Ragnar that would be in October 2011. Check out the video if you haven't heard of Ragnar its pretty amazing. I am still going through withdraws.

Keep in mind that was my first race. My next race was a 5k, then I did a 1/2 marathon. Yeah I am a bit crazy I know, but I am going back and going to start training the right way. My goal is to do a race each month just so I can keep running so I can be better prepared for the Ragnar and other 1/2 marathons and who knows maybe build up to a marathon.
